About ISDGS
History
The International Studbook for Djallonké Goat & Sheep (ISDGS) was established in 2020 and is managed by the African Ornamental Breeders Association (AOBA). It was established at the request of breeders and regional studbook workings from Guinea, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, CAR, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rep.Congo, DR.Congo, Angola and Botswana.
Because of the gaining popularity of these breeds in Europe, and a lack of breed knowledge, breed recognision and a studbook operation. The studbook was also opened to breeders from Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK.

Promoting selective breedings, genetic testing, mandatory DNA profiling, inspections, competitions, sperm and embryo collections.

Goals
To breed and preserve a genetically diverse population that meets the breed standard, that is healthy and free or resistant to disease.
Objectives
Advance the study, breeding, exhibiting and maintenance of purebred goat and sheep. By December 31, 2025, as many European purebreds as possible should be included in the studbook. So that after a healthy number of stock parents, the studbook can definitively close in Europe. By December 31, 2030, as many African breeders as possible with their purebreds should be included in the studbook.
