Wattles


Also known as waddles, bells, toggles, tassels, waggles, or lassies—are finger-like dangles of haired flesh found on the throats of goats, as well as on certain breeds of swine and sheep. ... They're usually a matched set, too, although a single wattle is not unheard of. It is a very rare appearance, but they also occur in the Djallonké sheep. And it is accepted in the standard.

Horn presence


  • The horns of rams are crescent shaped with angular cross sections. Rams should have sickle horns. The horns are wide at the base, curve backwards, outwards and then forwards again, with a maximum of one and a half coils. (Narrow Horn Set is not desired) 


  • Rams may have inherited scurs.
  • Rams may be hornless (polled).


  • The ewes are hornless (polled) or have tiny stumps (horn buds).


Existing Horn Shapes and Orientations


  • Rams can occur with; Lateral and straight horns, Spiral horns facing forward, Backward spiral horns. And in very rare cases with Prismatic or corkscrew or stumps.


  • Ewes can occur in very rare cases with; Lateral and straight horns, Stumps or Backward spiral horns, 


Sexual dimorphism occurs.


Ear orientation


  • The small ears should be horizontally erected, and not slightly drooping or semi-pendulous.


Facial (chamfer) profile


  • Predominantly convex. Not straight.


Coat


  • The coat is dense and tight. 
  • Rams should have a well-developed throat ruff (mane) on the neck and chest. 
  • Hair (wool formation is not accepted)


The eyes are large; their back is straight; their tail is fairly thick at the root growing thinner till it terminates at the hocks.

The neck is long and slender, the chest is deep, the legs are short, the back is long and dished, higher at the withers than at the tail-head.

  • Chest Girth: 55-70cm
  • Chest Depth: 22-40cm
  • Height at withers: 40-60cm
  • best average is between 55-58cm for rams and the extreme max. is 65cm.
  • best average is between 40-50cm for ewes.
  • Body Length: 45-65cm (best average is 54-58cm)
  • Ear Length: 7-13cm (best average is 10cm)
  • Tail Length: 17-28cm (best average is 20-25cm)
  • Horn Length: ...-25cm
  • Interval Length between the roots of the two horns: 4-10cm

  • Rams weigh approximately 25-30 kg (82 lb) (Up to 35 kg is accepted, but not preffered) best average is 27kg.
  • Ewes weigh about 20-25 kg (55 lb) (Up to 30 kg is accepted, but not preffered) best average is 22kg.
